Privacy & advertising

Reading and interactive tools
Calculator inputs stay on the page. We do not transmit these amounts, household details or model results to our page-view service. Saved-story bookmarks use your browser's local storage; clearing that storage removes them.
Page-view measurement
We record the article address, view time, referring domain and a broad mobile/desktop classification in our Supabase database. A random event ID in session storage limits repeat counting of the same article in the same browser tab. It is not an account or a permanent visitor identifier. Known bots, administrator previews and supported automated browsers are excluded, but automated traffic cannot be perfectly identified. These totals are estimated article views, not unique people or ad impressions.
Our view table does not store raw IP addresses, cookies, full referring URLs, search queries or calculator values. For abuse prevention, the server separately uses a keyed hash of the connecting network address in short-lived rate limits (up to 15 minutes); expired entries are removed on subsequent requests. This security data is not used for readership profiling. Hosting and database providers may keep their own operational and security logs under their policies.
Google advertising and your choices
We use Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies, local storage and device/network information to provide, measure and prevent fraud in advertising. Depending on your region and choices, ads may be personalised or non-personalised. How Google uses information from sites that use its services explains this processing.
Where a consent message applies, you can accept, reject or manage available purposes in that message. Use the Privacy choices link in the Global Edition footer to reopen an available Google consent message. You can also manage personalised advertising through Google My Ad Center and control cookies in your browser. Blocking ads or storage does not prevent you from reading our articles or using calculators.
Administrator access
The editorial desk uses short-lived sessions and stores only session-token hashes on the server. Administrator sessions expire after eight hours. Draft articles are private until an authorised editor requests publication. No public account registration, newsletter or payment form is provided here.
